Key Takeaways

  • Cape Media has given FKF Ksh 4.75 million to rescue the 2025/26 WPL and NSL campaigns.
  • Each of the 12 Women’s Premier League sides will pocket Ksh 100,000, plus new prize money for the top three.
  • Six National Super League clubs will share Ksh 1.8 million in equal grants of Ksh 300,000 each.

Football Kenya Federation has finally answered the cash cries from lower-tier teams after sealing a Ksh 4.75 million partnership with Cape Media.

The fresh funds arrive only seven days after Women’s Premier League captains warned they would refuse to play unless travel costs and prize rewards were sorted. Twelve WPL clubs now get an instant Ksh 100,000 grant, while the league table will also carry real money: Ksh 1 million for the champions, Ksh 500,000 for second place and Ksh 250,000 for third.

The second-tier National Super League will share Ksh 1.8 million, handed out as Ksh 300,000 apiece to Luanda Villa, Vihiga United, Gucha Stars, Darajani Gogo, Kabati Youth and Mwatate United.

FKF president Mohammed said the backing is meant to keep young players active and teach life skills through regular matches. “Structured leagues give youth safe spaces to learn discipline and teamwork,” he noted.

The cash pledge has cooled a brewing strike, allowing attention to swing back to the pitch where Kenya Police Bullets and Ulinzi Starlets meet on Saturday, 25 April at the Ulinzi Sports Complex for a top-of-the-table clash.
