Key Takeaways

  • Millwall grabbed a 90th-minute equaliser to draw 1-1 at Leicester.
  • The point lifts them back to second, one ahead of Ipswich who have two matches spare.
  • Harry Souttar marked his long injury comeback by giving the Foxes a late lead.

Millwall kept their automatic promotion hopes flickering with a dramatic 1-1 draw at already-down Leicester on Friday night.

Substitute Macauley Langstaff slammed home his first goal since February in the final minute, cancelling out Harry Souttar’s 78th-minute header.

The result returned the Lions to second in the Championship table on 80 points, but Ipswich Town, two points behind, still hold twin games in hand.

Early pressure came from the visitors. Josh Coburn raced clear in the 10th minute only for Hamza Choudhury’s last-ditch tackle to deny him and leave the striker too hurt to continue. Mihailo Ivanovic replaced him and was soon in the wars himself, catching an accidental elbow from Souttar that left him bleeding.

Millwall controlled possession for long spells. Camiel Neghli and Zak Sturge both fired off target, while Ryan Leonard rippled the side-netting. Leicester keeper Jakub Stolarczyk, handed a rare start, produced smart second-half blocks to deny Neghly and later a Thierno Ballo header.

With 12 minutes left Luke Thomas floated a deep cross and Souttar, making his first appearance since rupturing an Achilles 16 months ago, forced the ball over the line to spark brief home cheers.

Yet the Lions refused to fold. In the 90th minute Jake Leonard flicked on a long throw and Langstaff smashed a low shot past Stolarczyk to steal a point.

Manager Alex Neil admitted afterwards: “We wanted the win, but the lads have clawed a priceless draw. Ipswich have the advantage, yet we’ll fight until the last kick.”

Leicester boss praised Souttar’s bravery: “To head everything clear and then pop up with a goal after 450 days out shows real character.”

Millwall end their regular season at home to Oxford next Saturday, while Ipswich visit West Brom on Saturday and Southampton on Tuesday, leaving the race for the second promotion spot still wide open.
