Former Schalke 04 centre-back Tomasz Hajto says Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund are keeping close tabs on Polish teenager Kacper Potulski. The pundit claims the 19-year-old defender has attracted serious interest from several top German clubs.

Hajto, who now works as a television analyst, spoke to Allgemeine Zeitung about the situation at 1. FSV Mainz 05. He believes the young star could command a massive transfer fee in the future.

“I see enormous potential in Kacper Potulski,” Hajto explained. “Mainz might one day receive €30 million for him. However, he must play regularly to reach that level. My sources tell me many German clubs are watching him closely. Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund are among them. Teams from England and Italy are also keen.”

The defender started several matches earlier this campaign. Recently, though, he has sat on the bench for four consecutive games. This drop in playing time worries Hajto.

“Kacper seized every opportunity this season. He delivered outstanding performances. Against Hoffenheim, he came off the bench and played brilliantly. I cannot understand why the coach has ignored him lately. The experienced players made costly errors in the heavy defeats to Strasbourg, Freiburg and Bayern Munich,” Hajto stated.

He issued a stern warning to Mainz officials. “The player will soon question his future here. Why should he remain when his good performances do not guarantee selection the following week? This creates a serious problem for the club.”

Despite his recent absence from the pitch, Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert remains optimistic about the defender’s prospects. Bungert insists Potulski remains central to their long-term plans.

“Kacper represents our future,” Bungert declared. “He possesses outstanding ability. He will become a regular starter for us. I have no doubts about his importance to this team.”
