Crystal Palace have decided against keeping Nigerian striker Christantus Uche. The player joined the Premier League club on loan from Getafe CF last summer. Many believed the deal would become permanent. However, this will not happen.
The loan agreement included special conditions. Crystal Palace had to buy Uche permanently if he played a certain number of matches. He did not reach this target. Because of this, the €20 million transfer clause will not activate.
Toni Munoz is the sporting director at Getafe. He spoke to DAZN and Marca about the situation. “It is certain because the player did not meet the match target,” he said. “It is clear he will return to us.”
This news hurts Getafe financially. The club has struggled with money problems in recent years. They expected to receive €20 million this summer. Now they must look for other buyers. Uche’s value has dropped because he played rarely for Crystal Palace.
Getafe hope to qualify for European competitions next season. This would help their money problems. However, they also need to replace their manager. Jose Bordalas will leave the club at the end of the season.
