News Focus

  • AC Milan have won only one of their last five Serie A matches
  • AS Roma are just three points behind with three games remaining
  • Luka Modric will likely leave if the club misses Champions League qualification
  • Massimiliano Allegri’s contract extension depends on a top-four finish

AC Milan are facing a serious crisis. The club is losing its grip on a top-four position in Serie A.

Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport warns that failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League would cause major problems. The team has earned only three points from their last five league matches. This poor form has allowed AS Roma to move within three points of them. There are just three games left in the season.

Star midfielder Luka Modric is ready to leave the club if they miss out on Champions League football. The Croatian player’s contract ends in June. Milan have an option to extend it until 2027, but they will only use it if Modric agrees to stay. However, Sky Sport Italia reports that the 40-year-old will only remain if the team qualifies for the Champions League and if Massimiliano Allegri stays as manager.

Allegri’s future is also uncertain. His contract runs until 2027. It will automatically extend to 2028 only if Milan finish in the top four. If the club fails to reach this goal, the coach might leave San Siro. The Italy national team job is currently available, which could attract the Italian tactician away from Milan.
