- The midfielder made 188 appearances and scored 20 goals during seven years at the club
Leonardo Bittencourt looks set to miss the final weeks of his Werder Bremen career. The Brazilian midfielder is highly unlikely to feature for the Bundesliga side again.
The 32-year-old will depart the club when his current deal ends this summer. He has spent seven seasons with the Green-Whites.
However, a thigh problem will deny him a farewell appearance on the pitch. Werder Bremen coach Daniel Thioune confirmed the bad news during his press conference on Friday.
“There was another more detailed examination. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible that he will return to training next week. Therefore, a return to the squad on the final matchday against Borussia Dortmund would also not be possible,” Thioune stated.
The German outfit face Hoffenheim this Saturday. Bittencourt will not be involved in that clash either.
During his time at the Weser-Stadion, the attacking midfielder has played 188 matches. He has found the net 20 times and provided 16 assists for his team-mates.
Supporters will now say goodbye to the player without seeing him in action again. His exit brings an end to a lengthy spell with the northern German club.
