- Massimiliano Allegri’s position as head coach is also uncertain without European qualification
- The Rossoneri must win their final two matches against Genoa and Cagliari to secure a top-four finish
The futures of several senior AC Milan leaders are under serious review as the club fights to save its season. Chief Executive Giorgio Furlani, senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic, sporting director Igli Tare and technical director Geoffrey Moncada all face potential dismissal if the team fails to finish in the top four.
The Rossoneri currently sit fourth in the Serie A table. However, they are level on points with AS Roma, which means they could fall out of the Champions League places before the campaign ends. This situation marks a shocking collapse for a team that spent most of the year in second position and held a nine-point lead over fifth place at the beginning of March.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side has suffered a dramatic loss of form. Since beating Inter Milan in the Derby della Madonnina on 8 March, the squad has won only two of its last eight league matches. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan has taken just four points from its previous six outings.
Supporters have directed their anger at the board. The Curva Sud ultra group published a fierce statement attacking Furlani directly, ordering him to “pack his bags and leave” and blaming him for four straight years of disappointment. This public campaign increases the pressure on the club’s hierarchy.
Milan must now defeat Genoa and Cagliari in their remaining fixtures to guarantee a spot in next season’s Champions League. Failure to qualify would force the club to cut its budget and could make it impossible to keep head coach Allegri. The board plans to carry out a full review of all positions immediately after the season finishes.
