Paris Saint-Germain have decided against exercising their buy-back option for Joane Gadou. The teenage defender will instead complete a high-profile transfer to Borussia Dortmund this summer.
The 19-year-old Frenchman began his career in the PSG academy. He departed the Parc des Princes in 2024 without making a single senior appearance for the Ligue 1 champions. Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg invested €10 million to acquire his services last year.
Gadou has developed rapidly during his time in the Austrian Bundesliga. His strong displays at centre-back have attracted attention from several major European clubs. Borussia Dortmund moved quickly to secure his signature ahead of the new season.
The German club have negotiated a deal worth €20 million upfront. The agreement includes a further €6 million in add-ons based on the player’s performances. Gadou has already signed a five-year contract with the Black and Yellows.
PSG retained a right of first refusal as part of the original agreement with Salzburg. This clause gave the French club the chance to match Dortmund’s offer and re-sign the player. However, they have passed on this opportunity.
The Parisian outfit will still benefit financially from the move. They are set to receive €2 million through a sell-on clause. The young defender is expected to undergo his medical and complete the switch to the Bundesliga before the transfer window officially opens.
