- Les Sang et Or could still win the Coupe de France final this month
RC Lens manager Pierre Sage has claimed the Ligue 1 Manager of the Season award. The Frenchman received the prize at the UNFP ceremony in Paris on Monday night.
Last season, Lens finished outside the European places under former boss Will Still. This term, the club has transformed its fortunes. Les Sang et Or have challenged reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain for the domestic crown. With only two matches remaining, the title race is still open. However, Luis Enrique’s side need just one point to secure the trophy.
Sage saw off strong competition to win the award. He finished ahead of PSG coach Luis Enrique. Paulo Fonseca of Olympique Lyonnais also missed out. Bruno Genesio of Lille OSC and Olivier Pantaloni of FC Lorient were the other nominees.
The campaign may yet bring more success for Sage. His team will face OGC Nice in the Coupe de France final later this month. Victory in that clash would cap a memorable season for the club.
