1.FC Nürnberg have confirmed that midfielder Adam Markhiyev will miss the final match of the season. The 24-year-old suffered a serious nasal injury during the club’s recent 3-0 victory against Schalke 04.

The problem started just two minutes into the clash with the 2. Bundesliga champions. Markhiyev needed immediate medical attention following a heavy collision. He left the pitch to receive treatment but surprisingly returned to complete the full 90 minutes.

However, further scans revealed bad news. Doctors discovered a complex multi-fragment fracture in his nasal bone. The Finnish player had to undergo surgery in the days following the fixture.

This procedure rules him out of the season finale against Hanover. The club will have to cope without the defensive midfielder for this last away trip.

The injury also puts his international career on hold. Finland may have to select another player for their upcoming matches. Everything depends on how quickly Markhiyev heals.

This season, the holding midfielder has been a regular starter. He featured in 26 league matches, scoring one goal and providing one assist for the German side.
