SC Freiburg have confirmed that Berkay Yilmaz will remain at the club for the foreseeable future. The 21-year-old defender will rejoin the Bundesliga side when his two-year loan at 1. FC Nürnberg finishes at the end of this season.
The Turkish left-back has signed a new long-term deal with the German club. This decision has delighted Klemens Hartenbach, who serves as the sporting director at Freiburg.
Hartenbach spoke highly of the player’s time in the second tier. He stated that Yilmaz has adapted very well at Nürnberg. The defender has demonstrated a good balance between attacking play and defensive duties.
“Berkay has a big heart and shows total commitment to SC Freiburg,” said Hartenbach. “This provides a solid foundation for us to work together on the finer details. We are looking forward to it.”
During the current campaign, Yilmaz has featured in 32 matches in the 2. Bundesliga. He has also contributed 6 assists for his team-mates.
