Paris Saint-Germain are the champions of France. The Parisian club won their 14th Ligue 1 title on Wednesday evening after beating Lens 2-0.

The match was a postponed fixture from Round 29. When officials first scheduled this game, both sides were competing for the trophy. However, by the time the teams walked onto the pitch, PSG only needed to avoid defeat to lift the crown.

Lens hoped to delay the celebrations until the final weekend. A victory at their home ground would have kept their slim hopes alive. Yet they faced a full-strength attack selected by manager Luis Enrique.

The visitors dominated possession during the early stages. Lens attempted to press high up the pitch and won the ball in dangerous areas several times. Full-back Matthieu Udol provided the main threat for the hosts with dangerous crosses into the box. One of these deliveries nearly produced an early goal.

The first real chance fell to Odsonne Édouard. The striker shot from close range, but his effort went straight into the hands of Matvey Safonov.

PSG broke the deadlock midway through the first half. Ousmane Dembélé won possession from Malang Sarr before slipping a pass to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Georgian forward rounded goalkeeper Robin Risser and tucked home a deft finish. This marked his tenth goal in just twelve matches since joining the club.

Safonov continued his excellent form immediately after the interval. He parried a powerful strike from Abdallah Sima. Lens introduced substitutes Florian Thauvin and Allan Saint-Maximin after the hour mark, but the Russian goalkeeper dealt confidently with every attack.

Chances for the Parisians became rare during the final half-hour. Lens came agonisingly close when Sima struck the woodwork with fifteen minutes remaining. Safonov then denied Massadio Sangaré from close range following another Udol cross. Thauvin thought he had scored, but the assistant referee correctly flagged for offside.

The victory was confirmed in the closing minutes. Ibrahim Mbaye fired into the top corner to finish a swift counter-attack led by Désiré Doué.

Although their title challenge has ended, Lens can still claim silverware. They will meet Nice in the Coupe de France final next week. Their supporters witnessed a spirited display despite the defeat.

Player Ratings

Matvey Safonov, 9 – The Russian shot-stopper made eight saves across the ninety minutes. His interventions proved vital when Lens threatened most strongly during the first period.

Ilya Zabarnyi, 8 – The defender delivered arguably his finest display for the club. His commanding presence stabilised the back line, and he made a crucial header to clear a goal-bound effort from Corentin Thomasson.

Malang Sarr, 3 – Usually a standout performer for Lens, the defender struggled for solidity. He missed tackles and, crucially, lost possession to Dembélé in the build-up to the opening goal.

Abdallah Sima, 5 – The forward worked tirelessly but lacked the cutting edge to alter the scoreline.
