Cristian Chivu has warned that success at FC Internazionale Milano can never be assumed, despite the club securing both the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia this season. The Romanian boss watched his side defeat SS Lazio 2-0 in the final to complete a memorable domestic double.

The Nerazzurri entered this campaign looking to bounce back from a disappointing previous year. Chivu, who replaced Simone Inzaghi as head coach, has transformed the team’s fortunes. They clinched the league championship earlier this month before adding the cup trophy at the Stadio Olimpico.

This achievement carries special significance for the former defender. Chivu was part of the squad that won the treble under Jose Mourinho in 2010. Now, as manager, he has delivered the club’s first Scudetto and Coppa Italia combination since that historic season.

“We deserved these two trophies after a strong campaign,” Chivu told Sport Mediaset. “We are delighted for our supporters and the club, who stood by us during difficult times. Winning both the league and the cup is never something you expect. We are very happy.”

The triumph marks Inter’s tenth Coppa Italia success, placing them second behind Juventus who hold fifteen titles. The team had last lifted this trophy in 2023.

Supporters can celebrate both achievements on Sunday. The squad will display the trophies during an open-top bus parade through Milan after receiving the Serie A cup following their match against Hellas Verona.
