Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has stirred fresh controversy after declaring Kylian Mbappe the club’s top player. The Spanish businessman spoke to La Sexta television this week about the team’s difficult season.

Perez stated that the French forward is currently the best footballer at the Bernabeu. This comment could create problems with Vinicius Junior, who has also scored many crucial goals for the side.

The Madrid dressing room is unsettled at present. Last week, midfielders Aurelien Tchouameni and Fede Valverde fought during practice. Defenders Antonio Rudiger and Alvaro Carreras also had a serious argument. Club officials were reportedly unhappy with Mbappe’s attitude whilst he was injured. However, Perez supported the former Paris Saint-Germain star during the broadcast.

“Mbappe is our best player right now. He won the Golden Boot award. But we must improve some things. The Champions League exit still hurts us. The referee made mistakes in that match,” Perez explained.

The president also discussed Vinicius Junior’s future. The Brazilian winger’s contract ends in 2027. Perez said they do not need to rush the new deal. “Vinicius is a great player. He helped us win the last two Champions League trophies. We have time to talk about his contract. The sports directors will handle this,” he added.
