Several Premier League clubs are monitoring Federico Gatti. The Juventus defender has lost his place in Luciano Spalletti’s side. Everton, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Fulham are all watching the Italian international.
Italian newspaper Tuttosport claims Juventus will accept offers near €25 million. This money would help the Turin club rebuild their defence. Gatti now sits on the edge of the first team. The centre-back is ready to move to England if a good bid comes.
This sale helps Juventus with their Champions League squad rules. Although Gatti is Italian, he does not count as a homegrown player. UEFA rules say homegrown players must spend 36 months at a club between ages 15 and 21. Gatti did not do this. Therefore, his sale brings money without hurting the squad list.
Juventus face a difficult summer ahead. They must include at least eight locally-trained players in their 25-man Champions League group. Several Italians may leave, including goalkeepers Mattia Perin and Michele Di Gregorio. The club must plan carefully to meet these rules.
Selling Gatti would raise important cash. The club also hopes to receive fees if other players depart. These funds could help them buy Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini or Brentford’s Michael Kayode.
