  • David Neres returns to the Napoli squad after more than four months on the sidelines
  • The Brazilian winger is expected to start on the bench for the away trip to Pisa
  • Napoli need a victory to guarantee their place in next season’s Champions League
  • The 27-year-old has been out since suffering an Achilles injury in January

Brazilian wide man David Neres is back in the Napoli squad for the first time since early January. The attacker has recovered from a long-term Achilles problem and will travel with the team for Sunday’s away clash against Pisa.

Manager Antonio Conte now has extra options in attack as his side battles to finish in the top four. Reports from Sky Sport, carried by Goal.com, suggest Neres will be part of the matchday group at the Cetilar Arena. However, fans should not expect him in the starting eleven.

The former Benfica star is likely to begin the match among the substitutes. Conte may give him a brief appearance late in the game depending on the scoreline and the player’s fitness levels.

Neres damaged his left ankle during the match against Lazio on 4 January. At that time, he was playing his best football of the campaign. Later scans revealed an issue with his Achilles tendon that needed surgery. This kept him out of action for the rest of the winter and spring.

His return comes at a vital moment. Napoli face Pisa, who have already been relegated, in one of their final two matches. A win would confirm their spot in next season’s Champions League group stage, making this a must-win fixture for the club regardless of other results.
