Turin-based club Juventus are preparing a major overhaul of their defence ahead of next season. The Serie A side has identified Michael Kayode and Giorgio Scalvini as priority signings to strengthen their backline.
Kayode currently represents English club Brentford. The full-back previously developed through Fiorentina’s academy, giving him prior experience of Italian football. Scalvini remains with Atalanta, where he has established himself as one of the most highly rated young centre-backs in the division.
The Bianconeri are willing to invest heavily to secure both players. Atalanta value Scalvini at between €35 million and €40 million. Kayode would command a fee of approximately €30 million. Together, this double deal would cost Juventus roughly €70 million.
Italy national team manager Luciano Spalletti previously coached Scalvini during international fixtures. He values the defender’s versatility, as Scalvini can operate effectively in both a three-man and four-man defensive line. The player also demonstrates excellent composure when in possession.
Both targets offer an additional benefit for Juventus. They meet UEFA’s homegrown player criteria, which simplifies Champions League squad registration. This factor has become increasingly important in the club’s recruitment planning.
Juventus face Fiorentina and Torino in their remaining two league fixtures. They currently occupy a comfortable position in the table, but cannot afford errors. AC Milan, AS Roma and Como remain within reach of their position. The club’s final standing will dictate the size of their budget for the upcoming transfer window.
