Olympique de Marseille plan to ask for €80 million for Mason Greenwood this summer. The French club did not qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. Because of this, they must sell important players to fix their finances.
Greenwood, aged 24, is now the club’s most valuable player for transfer purposes. French newspaper L’Équipe reports that Marseille hope to receive a large sum for the English attacker.
Greenwood won an award at the UNFP ceremony on Monday. There, he said he wants to stay at the Stade Vélodrome. However, sources say the player has lost interest. The connection between Greenwood and the Marseille bosses has become difficult.
Football experts think Greenwood is worth about €40 million to €50 million. This lower price comes from news about his poor attitude. But Marseille want between €70 million and €80 million.
Top clubs in Italy, Spain and Germany have asked about buying the forward. Teams from Turkey are also interested. A return to the Premier League is not possible. The player also does not want to join the Saudi Pro League.
Manchester United still own 40 per cent of Greenwood’s rights. They would get a big share of any transfer money.
