Borussia Mönchengladbach have set their sights on Hannover 96 captain Enzo Leopold. The 25-year-old midfielder will leave his current club on a free transfer when his deal expires at the end of the season.
According to Sky Germany, the Foals have a concrete interest in bringing the player to Borussia-Park. They view him as a cost-effective option to boost their squad. The club needs cover in the middle of the park following the departure of Rocco Reitz.
Leopold made 33 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga this term. He found the net three times during the campaign. However, Hannover failed to secure promotion to the top flight. This disappointment has pushed the skipper to seek a new challenge.
Several clubs from Major League Soccer have also made enquiries about the German. Despite this interest, Leopold would rather remain in the Bundesliga. He believes his future lies in Germany’s top division.
Gladbach are also chasing Rani Khedira. The club hopes to sign both midfielders. Together, they could form a fresh engine room partnership for the next campaign.
