FC Barcelona have begun preparations for a crucial summer transfer window. The club aims to strengthen the squad significantly following confirmation that veteran striker Robert Lewandowski will leave at the season’s end.
Sporting director Deco addressed supporters during the annual end-of-season dinner on Wednesday evening. He admitted that finding a replacement for the Polish goalscorer presents a major challenge for the recruitment team.
“Today carries some sadness as we confirm Robert’s departure,” Deco explained. “Replacing him seems almost impossible. He has been the top striker in recent seasons, and his contributions here are extremely difficult to match. However, football continues. Ferran Torres arrived as a wide player but adapted to centre-forward duties. Now we must make choices and improve our squad.”
Deco stressed that no potential signing is dismissed at this stage. “Profile is not the deciding factor. We exclude nobody, nor do we confirm anybody. These remain internal discussions. We must ensure our professional approach continues yearly. Losing Robert hurts, but we will definitely attempt to strengthen the team.”
Current reports suggest João Pedro stands as the favoured option over Julián Álvarez. The Chelsea attacker reportedly desires the transfer, though the London club resists selling. Former Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso recently took charge at Stamford Bridge, which complicates negotiations further.
The final decision rests with Deco. Supporters now await news of whether he can secure an agreement for either target before the new campaign begins.
