FSV Mainz 05 have confirmed the capture of striker Ransford Königsdörffer from Hamburger SV. The Berlin-born Ghanaian international joins the Bundesliga outfit without a transfer fee.
The 24-year-old forward has put pen to paper on a deal with the German top-flight club. He arrives with significant experience from the second tier, having featured in 130 matches in the 2. Bundesliga throughout his career.
This campaign, Königsdörffer found the net on five occasions across 33 appearances for Hamburg. His performances have convinced Mainz officials that he can strengthen their offensive options.
Niko Bungert, the club’s sporting director, expressed delight over the acquisition. He described the player as a rapid and powerful centre-forward whose attributes suit the team’s tactical approach perfectly.
Bungert noted that the attacker has demonstrated remarkable consistency by featuring in nearly every competitive match in recent seasons. He added that Königsdörffer has matured into a reliable Bundesliga performer.
The director highlighted that the striker is entering his prime years at 24. He stated that the club successfully persuaded the player to continue his development at the Mewa Arena.
This marks the second notable addition to the squad within 24 hours. The club yesterday secured the services of Eric Martel from 1. FC Köln.
