Reports from Italy suggest that AC Milan could soon dismiss their chief executive Giorgio Furlani. The Serie A giants may also remove Zlatan Ibrahimovic from his role as a senior adviser. This shake-up might open the door for former CEO Adriano Galliani to make a dramatic return to the club.
The situation at the San Siro has become very tense. Furlani is currently in conflict with sporting director Igli Tare. At the same time, manager Max Allegri refuses to speak with Ibrahimovic. These problems have forced the club’s American owner, Gerry Cardinale, to make some difficult choices very quickly.
According to sources at MilanNews and Tuttomercatoweb, Furlani is the most likely person to lose his job. He has been a powerful figure at the club for several years. He originally represented the previous owners, Elliott Management. However, the club recently bought out a vendor loan. This action means that Elliott no longer has any power to make decisions.
This change gives Cardinale and his company RedBird the freedom to remove Furlani. The chief executive has also faced heavy criticism from fans during recent protests at the stadium.
Ibrahimovic might also have to leave because of his broken relationship with Allegri. However, sources suggest that Tare will probably lose his position regardless of who else departs.
The latest news points to a possible return for Galliani. He served as the club’s chief executive for more than three decades under former owner Silvio Berlusconi. He later followed Berlusconi to Monza to work on a new project there.
Galliani will turn 82 years old in July. Therefore, any return to Milan would only be a short-term solution to help rebuild the struggling club.
Massimo Calvelli, who works closely with Cardinale, has now received the task of finding a suitable long-term general manager for the future.
