Toulouse FC have officially appointed Jens Berthel Askou as their new head coach. The French club confirmed the move after the Danish tactician left his role at Motherwell FC.

The 43-year-old joins the Ligue 1 side following a successful campaign in Scotland. He led Motherwell to a fourth-place finish in the Premiership during his time at the club.

Askou takes over from Carles Martinez Novell. The Spaniard left Toulouse when his contract came to an end and is now reportedly close to joining a club in his homeland.

The French club considered several candidates for the position. Olivier Pantaloni, who recently departed FC Lorient, was mentioned as a possible option. However, Toulouse moved quickly to secure Askou’s services instead.

The former centre-back spoke about his excitement for the new challenge. He praised the work of his predecessor and outlined his ambitions for the team.

“I see a bright future ahead of us following the fantastic work done by Carles Martinez Novell to establish the club in a very strong position in Ligue 1,” Askou stated. “I am convinced that we have a wonderful opportunity to aim even higher in the years to come.”

This appointment marks a major step in Askou’s managerial career as he swaps Scottish football for the French top flight.
