AC Milan are preparing for a major change at the top of the club. Giorgio Furlani looks set to leave his position as chief executive officer. The club’s leaders plan to hold formal talks about his future after their final Serie A clash against Cagliari on Sunday.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Furlani feels owner Gerry Cardinale no longer wants him in the job. This has pushed him to think about stepping down. Massimo Calvelli, who holds a senior role at RedBird, is now leading the hunt for a new chief. He has started work on finding the right person for the role.

Three candidates stand out as the main options. First is Adriano Galliani. The 81-year-old former Milan chief enjoys a strong relationship with manager Max Allegri. His return could help calm tensions inside the dressing room. However, his age means any appointment would likely be temporary.

Giovanni Carnevali offers a different approach. The current Sassuolo chief has built a name for clever player signings, strict budget control, and developing young talent. Many view him as one of Italy’s best football administrators. The third option is Claudio Fenucci. He has played a key part in Bologna’s impressive climb up the table. Fenucci turned the Rossoblu into a European side without huge spending. This smart approach appeals to Milan as they look to rebuild carefully.

Furlani’s exit forms part of a bigger shake-up at the San Siro. Sporting director Igli Tare is also set to leave. Questions remain about Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s position within the club too.
