Gor Mahia have issued a stern warning to Mara Sugar. The league leaders say delaying their Kenyan Premier League match will not prevent a heavy defeat.

The Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) postponed the fixture on Friday evening. Mara Sugar had obtained court orders to stop the match. The sugar millers protested against the Football Kenya Federation’s (FKF) decision to move the game from Awendo Green Stadium to Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

FKF officials cited safety concerns at Awendo. They pointed out that Mara Sugar had registered Raila Odinga Stadium as their alternative home ground at the start of the season. The federation rejected a proposal to use Wang’uru Stadium in Mwea instead.

K’Ogalo remain unfazed by the legal battle. The club released a statement saying opponents can play delaying tactics with venues. They insisted they are ready to win anywhere. The statement added that the result is certain regardless of when the match takes place.

The postponement puts Gor Mahia’s title celebrations on hold. The leaders would have claimed the trophy with a victory against Mara Sugar. Now they must wait for the SDT hearing.

AFC Leopards sit second with 64 points, four behind Gor Mahia. They play APS Bomet on Sunday. A win would cut the deficit to just one point.

Gor Mahia still face a tricky final match against Nairobi United. The promoted side beat Gor Mahia 2-1 in last season’s FKF Cup. Their league meeting in December ended in chaos. Crowd trouble forced officials to stop the match at 1-1. Nairobi United are currently appealing the FKF decision to award both teams one point each.
