  • AC Milan want Fabio Paratici as their new director of sport
  • The Rossoneri sacked four senior figures after missing Champions League qualification
  • Club advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reportedly contacted Paratici about the vacancy
  • Paratici served a 30-month ban for financial irregularities during his time at Juventus
  • Atalanta director Tony D’Amico is an alternative target but appears bound for AS Roma

AC Milan have identified Fabio Paratici as their top choice to lead the club’s transfer strategy. The move comes just weeks after Paratici accepted a similar position at Fiorentina in February.

The Rossoneri are rebuilding their entire management structure. The board dismissed coach Max Allegri, CEO Giorgio Furlani, director of sport Igli Tare and technical director Geoffrey Moncada in a single day. This mass exodus follows the team’s failure to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.

Club legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who now works as a special advisor, has taken a direct role in the search. He has reportedly spoken with Paratici to gauge his interest in leaving Fiorentina for San Siro.

Paratici’s appointment would be controversial. The Italian executive received a 30-month suspension from all football activities in April 2023. The ban related to irregular accounting practices over player sales during his spell at Juventus. He returned to work recently after serving the suspension.

Milan actually approached Paratici earlier this year. They withdrew their offer in April because they feared his ban might be extended. Now that he is free to work, the club has revived their interest.

The Rossoneri do have other options. They have considered Atalanta’s Tony D’Amico for the role. However, widespread reports suggest D’Amico is set to join AS Roma instead. Atalanta are already planning for his departure. They intend to replace him with former Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli.

Milan must resolve their director of sport position quickly. The club needs a new transfer chief in place before they can focus on appointing a replacement for Allegri on the bench.
