Lille OSC have confirmed that head coach Bruno Génésio will depart the club when his current contract finishes at the end of next month. The French tactician arrived at the northern club in 2024. He signed a two-year agreement to replace Paulo Fonseca.
During his first campaign in charge, Génésio delivered an impressive UEFA Champions League run. The team secured famous victories against European giants Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid. They also earned a valuable draw against Italian side Juventus.
The 59-year-old ensured his final act would secure continental football for his successor. Lille finished third in the Ligue 1 table. This position guarantees automatic entry into the Champions League league phase. They finished above Génésio’s former clubs, Olympique Lyonnais and Stade Rennais.
Club officials could not reach an agreement to extend Génésio’s stay in the north of France. His departure opens the door to a potential switch to Olympique de Marseille. Reports suggest Les Phocéens plan to replace current manager Habib Beye.
