Como 1907 and their manager Cesc Fàbregas staged an open-top bus parade through the city this week. The club celebrated securing a place in next season’s Champions League, a historic first for the Italian side.

Before the final matchday, the team sat in sixth position, level on points with Juventus and two points behind both AC Milan and Roma. However, a 4-1 away win at Cremonese, combined with Milan’s 2-1 home defeat to Cagliari, pushed Como into fourth place.

Just two years ago, the Lariani were competing in Serie B. They had never before qualified for any European competition. Now they will face the continent’s elite clubs.

The squad began their bus journey at the Stadio Sinigaglia, waving to large crowds throughout the city. The club shared clips of the celebration on social media channels.

This season brought further success beyond the league. Como reached the Coppa Italia semi-finals for the first time in their history, losing only to eventual winners Inter. Their league record stands at 20 wins, 11 draws and seven defeats, with 65 goals scored and just 29 conceded. Only champions Inter Milan found the net more often, managing 89 strikes.

Next season, Como will host some of world football’s biggest stars at the Stadio Sinigaglia during their Champions League campaign.
