Swiss goalkeeper Jonas Omlin is close to sealing a return to FC Basel. The experienced player has agreed his new contract with the Swiss club. This paves the way for him to leave German side Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Sources say the two clubs are now finishing the transfer talks. They are sorting out the final parts of the deal. Omlin is expected to undergo his medical tests early next week.
The move comes after a difficult season for the 32-year-old. He did not play any matches for Gladbach in the first half of the 2025/26 campaign. He then joined Bayer Leverkusen on loan in January. However, he failed to make a single appearance for the Bundesliga champions.
Moritz Nicolas is now the first-choice keeper at Borussia-Park. The club has also signed Daniel Batz from Mainz 05 to provide backup. This means Omlin has no clear path back into the starting team.
Omlin enjoyed a successful spell at St. Jakob-Park between 2018 and 2020. He was the club’s main goalkeeper during that time. The Switzerland international now hopes to restart his career at his former home.
