Gor Mahia will finally face Mara Sugar this Wednesday. The match takes place at Raila Odinga International Stadium in Homa Bay. The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League fixture was supposed to happen last weekend. However, the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) stopped it temporarily. They acted because of a serious argument about where to play the match.

Now the court has removed the legal blocks. The record 22-time Kenyan champions can play at last. They enter the pitch as confirmed title winners, not as hopefuls. The legal battle postponed their party on match day. Yet Gor Mahia became champions on Sunday evening. They won the 2025/26 FKF Premier League title without kicking a ball.

Their rivals secured the title for them. AFC Leopards lost 2-1 to APS Bomet in Kericho. This shock result meant Gor Mahia could not be caught. Ingwe’s defeat leaves K’Ogalo unreachable at the top of the table. The champions have 68 points. They still have two games left to play. AFC Leopards have just one match remaining. They can only reach 67 points maximum. This confirms Gor Mahia as champions. They take the trophy back from last season’s winners, Police FC.

The Wednesday game follows major arguments between officials. Mara Sugar are the home team. They first wanted to use Awendo Green Stadium. But FKF officials said no. They cited safety worries and stadium size. Thousands of Gor Mahia fans, known as the Green Army, plan to attend. The Competitions Committee told Mara Sugar to find another ground.

Mara Sugar then chose Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga. The federation refused this choice too. They ordered the match to move to Homa Bay. Mara Sugar had listed Raila Odinga International Stadium as their second home ground. The club, known as the Sugar Millers, complained to the SDT. They said Homa Bay gives them no home benefit. They argued the venue favours Gor Mahia. The champions have huge support in the Nyanza region.

The court has now approved the Wednesday match. The mood in Homa Bay will be festive. Local fans will welcome their champions with great excitement. After Wednesday’s game, Charles Akonnor’s squad will travel back to Nairobi. They will prepare for their last match of the season. They face Nairobi United on Sunday. Club leaders have planned the final match day carefully. The game against Nairobi United will also serve as the official trophy ceremony. The champions will lift the 2025/26 Premier League cup.
