FC Barcelona are ready to announce their first summer signing of 2026. The Spanish club have reached an agreement with Newcastle United to buy England winger Anthony Gordon for €80 million plus extra payments.

Sporting director Deco visited England earlier this week to speak with Gordon’s representatives. The talks progressed quickly. Barcelona made an opening offer and within hours, they agreed terms with the Premier League side. Newcastle had originally demanded €92 million, but they accepted the lower figure with bonuses included.

Team manager Hansi Flick supported the move. He thinks the 25-year-old suits his attacking system perfectly. Gordon can operate on the wing or through the centre, which gives the coach more flexibility in attack.

Newcastle agreed to sell despite interest from German champions Bayern Munich and English club Liverpool. The deal moved fast once personal terms were settled between the player and Barcelona.

The next step is for Gordon to travel to Spain for his medical examination. Club officials want to complete all formalities before the player reports for international duty with England for next month’s 2026 World Cup. Barcelona wanted to avoid any price increase if Gordon performs well at the tournament.

After completing this transfer, Barcelona plan to sign another striker. The club are monitoring targets like Julian Alvarez and Joao Pedro to strengthen their forward line further.
