FC Augsburg have announced the permanent capture of Portuguese forward Rodrigo Ribeiro from Sporting Lisbon. The Bundesliga side have triggered the release clause to secure the 21-year-old on a contract that runs until 2031.
The young striker initially joined the Bavarian outfit on a temporary deal but has now completed a full transfer. During the latter half of the campaign, Ribeiro featured fourteen times in the German top flight and found the net on two occasions.
His form has also earned recognition at international level. The forward received his first call-up to Portugal’s Under-21 squad and made his debut for the youth side in March this year.
Benni Weber, the club’s sporting director, expressed his delight at securing the player’s future. He stated that Ribeiro has demonstrated excellent potential both on and off the pitch during his short spell with the team.
Weber highlighted the attacker’s pace and ability to make runs in behind the defence as key assets. He noted that these qualities align perfectly with Augsburg’s tactical approach and their strategy of developing young talent.
The Portuguese youth international will now look to establish himself as a regular starter in the Bundesliga next season.
