Gor Mahia failed to score against Mara Sugar as their rescheduled FKF Premier League clash ended without goals at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay on Wednesday afternoon.

The result moves K’Ogalo to 69 points for the campaign, while Francis Xavier’s Mara Sugar climb to eighth position with 44 points.

Gor entered the match as newly crowned champions. The record 22-time winners secured the trophy at the weekend when nearest rivals AFC Leopards suffered a 2-1 defeat to APS Bomet. This result left K’Ogalo four points clear at the top with 68 points prior to this fixture.

The build-up to Wednesday’s match focused on legal disputes rather than football. Mara Sugar initially prevented the game from taking place at the Homa Bay venue through orders from the Sports Disputes Tribunal. However, the Football Kenya Federation secured a High Court ruling that overruled the SDT decision and forced the match to proceed at ROSH.

On the pitch, action remained scarce. Mara Sugar goalkeeper Joseph Ogenda denied Shariff Musa in the 17th minute. The best opportunity fell to Cameroonian forward Patrick Essombe shortly after the half-hour mark, but he fired wide from close range with the goal gaping.

K’Ogalo will now prepare for their final match against Nairobi United at Nyayo Stadium, where they are expected to lift the trophy. Meanwhile, Mara Sugar travel to face Murang’a Seal in their concluding fixture of the season.
