- The 30-year-old forward has netted five goals in fourteen appearances since arriving in January
- Les Gones are unwilling to trigger the €5 million buy clause set by Olympiacos
- The French club aim to secure the striker’s signature at a reduced price
Ukrainian striker Roman Yaremchuk joined Olympique Lyonnais on loan from Olympiacos during the winter transfer window. The 30-year-old has adapted quickly to life in France, finding the back of the net five times in fourteen outings across all competitions. Four of those strikes came in Ligue 1 matches, helping Paulo Fonseca’s men secure a fourth-place finish.
This league position guarantees the club a spot in the preliminary rounds of the UEFA Champions League later this summer. However, the squad will undergo changes before the new campaign kicks off. Endrick is set to return to parent club Real Madrid following the expiry of his loan agreement. Meanwhile, Rachid Ghezzal will leave the Groupama Stadium when his contract runs out at the end of June.
With these departures in mind, Lyon are keen to maintain some continuity in their attacking department. They wish to retain Yaremchuk on a long-term basis. However, the French side are currently refusing to meet the €5 million purchase option that was included in the original loan deal with the Greek giants. Instead, they intend to enter discussions with Olympiacos in the hope of lowering the transfer fee to bring the experienced forward on board permanently.
