Top-flight Kenyan football clubs have taken a significant step toward self-governance after agreeing to establish a new management structure for the 2026/27 season. Representatives from all 20 FKF Premier League sides met in Nairobi on Tuesday to discuss the formation of a Transition League Management Committee.
The gathering, which included Football Kenya Federation president Hussein Mohammed, saw club chairpersons vote to create an independent administrative body. This new committee will operate under specific terms of reference and strict timelines while remaining compliant with the federation’s constitutional framework.
Club leaders emphasised that the transition aims to be thorough and participatory, ensuring all stakeholders have input into the new arrangement. In a joint statement, the Chairmen’s Council expressed dedication to building a professionally run and highly competitive league environment.
This development marks the first attempt to restore independent league management since the tenure of former FKF boss Sam Nyamweya. The chairpersons have called upon all parties to back this restructuring effort as they work toward transforming the domestic top tier.
