- Real Madrid reportedly ready to offer coaching position if 40-year-old retires this summer
Luka Modric has issued a heartfelt message to AC Milan fans while hinting at a possible departure from the Italian giants. The 40-year-old midfielder used Instagram to reflect on a difficult finish to the campaign, which saw the Rossoneri miss out on Champions League qualification.
The former Real Madrid star described the season as containing both “beautiful moments and difficult moments.” However, he accepted that the final result did not match their expectations. In his post, the Ballon d’Or winner praised the Milan supporters for their “love, respect and amazing support” during his time at the club.
Modric joined the Serie A side last summer on a one-year contract with an option to extend for another 12 months. Despite his impressive performances on the pitch, his future now hangs in the balance. The club faces serious problems behind the scenes. They currently have no head coach, no sporting director, no technical director, and no chief executive officer.
The situation is complicated further by their failure to qualify for the 2026-27 Champions League. Without Europe’s top competition, keeping the experienced Croatian could prove difficult. Several clubs have reportedly shown interest in signing the six-time Champions League winner.
Spanish media claim that Real Madrid are prepared to offer Modric a coaching or directorial role if he decides to stop playing. The Croatian spent many successful years at the Bernabéu, winning numerous trophies including six European titles. Modric has not yet confirmed whether he will continue his playing career or accept a non-playing position.
