Argentine footballer Nico Gonzalez has made his position clear. He does not want to return to Juventus next season. This comes after his loan spell at Atletico Madrid ended without a permanent transfer.
The winger joined Juventus in the summer of 2024. He moved from Fiorentina on a loan deal. The agreement included a compulsory purchase option. The total cost for Juventus reached €33 million. Additional bonuses could add another €8.1 million to the fee.
Gonzalez spent only one season in Turin. The Italian club then sent him to Atletico Madrid on another temporary deal. This second loan also contained a conditional obligation to buy.
However, the Spanish side did not meet the purchase requirements. The clause depended on Gonzalez playing a specific number of La Liga matches. He failed to reach this target. Consequently, Atletico avoided paying the €32 million buy-out fee.
Despite this, the Madrid club wants to keep the player. They are negotiating a lower price. Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest Atletico will offer between €24 million and €25 million. This figure includes potential bonuses.
The winger insists on staying in the Spanish capital. He has informed his agents that he will not play for Juventus in the 2026-27 season. His primary goal is a permanent contract with Diego Simeone’s team.
If the two clubs cannot agree on a transfer fee, Gonzalez will seek a move to a different club. He remains determined to continue his career outside of Italy.
