Paris Saint-Germain have lifted the Champions League trophy for the second year running. The French champions defeated Arsenal in a tense penalty shoot-out in Budapest on Saturday evening.

The Premier League winners took an early lead through Kai Havertz. However, Ousmane Dembélé equalised from the penalty spot to bring the French side back into the match. Neither team could find a winner during ninety minutes or extra time.

The final went to penalties after the score remained level at 1-1. Arsenal defender Gabriel blazed his attempt over the crossbar, allowing PSG to claim victory. Les Parisiens become the first club to retain the trophy since Real Madrid’s dominant spell between 2016 and 2018.

Following the match, midfielder João Neves aimed strong criticism at Arsenal’s playing style. Speaking to French broadcaster M6, the Portugal international suggested his team deserved success because they were the only ones attempting to play proper football.

Neves, who joined the Parisians from Benfica last summer, expressed deep satisfaction with his career move. He stated that working with his current teammates and staff brings him more joy than the victory itself.
