Luka Modric has kept supporters guessing about his future, but recent signs suggest the Croatian legend may end his playing days at AC Milan and move into a management position at Real Madrid. The veteran joined the Italian side on a free transfer last summer following thirteen successful seasons with the Spanish club. Despite his age, he demonstrated that he can still compete at the highest level.

Modric found the net twice and provided three assists across 37 matches in all competitions. His campaign suffered a setback after a clash of heads with Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli left him with a facial fracture. Time waits for no one, and with his 41st birthday approaching in September, the World Cup winner now faces a major decision about his career.

Hanging up his boots looks increasingly likely. The former Ballon d’Or winner has given several clues that his short spell at the San Siro could be drawing to a close. Last week, he shared a post on Instagram praising the Rossoneri faithful for their support throughout the campaign. He did not confirm if this was a simple show of gratitude or a final farewell.

Shortly after, he posted an image on his Instagram Story showing an embrace with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez. He added two white hearts, matching the club’s famous kit colours. Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claims Modric could head back to the Bernabéu in an executive position. He spent over a decade there as a player between 2012 and 2025.

This move would bring him together again with José Mourinho, who is also rumoured to be returning to the Spanish capital.
