Police have arrested former England winger Raheem Sterling. The 31-year-old faces serious charges after a crash on a busy motorway.

The incident happened on Thursday morning. Sterling allegedly drove his Lamborghini into barriers on the M3 southbound. The location was near the Minley Interchange in Hampshire.

Hampshire Police received reports shortly before 9am. Officers confirmed that no other vehicles were involved. Nobody reported any injuries from the crash.

Officers arrested the footballer at the scene. They suspect him of driving whilst unfit through drugs. Other charges include dangerous driving and possession of a Class C drug. He also allegedly failed to provide a specimen.

The player comes from Berkshire. Police have released him on bail pending further enquiries.

A source close to the player spoke to the media. They confirmed the arrest took place. However, they stated there is currently no proof of drugs in Sterling’s system.

The same source revealed Sterling has struggled recently. They claimed he has endured an extremely difficult period. The source said he feels worthless and forgotten.

Sterling currently plays for Feyenoord in the Netherlands. He joined the Dutch club in February. This move came after he left Chelsea by mutual consent in January.

His time at Stamford Bridge ended early. The club agreed to a settlement package with the winger. His contract had 18 months remaining. It was worth more than £300,000 each week.

The Manchester City legend made only eight appearances for Feyenoord. His time in the Dutch Eredivisie has been brief.

Sterling spent four years at Chelsea. During this time, he played 59 league matches. He also spent one season on loan at Arsenal.

The winger signed for Chelsea from Manchester City in 2022. He won four Premier League titles with City. He started his professional career at Liverpool before moving north in 2015.

The England international has earned 82 caps for his country. His last appearance came at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
