Liverpool FC have officially confirmed that Ibrahima Konaté will depart the club this summer. The France international will leave as a free agent after his current deal ends.
The 27-year-old defender joined the Reds from RB Leipzig in 2021. The transfer cost Liverpool more than €40 million. During his time at Anfield, Konaté has played 183 matches. He has helped the team secure four major honours. These include the Premier League title this season, two Carabao Cups, and the FA Cup.
Talks over a new contract have continued for more than a year. However, the club and the player failed to reach an agreement. Both sides have now decided to part ways when the contract runs out next month.
The Merseyside club released a statement thanking Konaté. Liverpool praised his contribution and wished him well for the future. The centre-back is currently away with the French national team. He is training at Clairefontaine ahead of international duty.
Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad are reportedly keen to sign the defender. The move would take Konaté to the Saudi Pro League next season.
