  • Paris Saint-Germain have pulled out of the race to sign Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez.
  • The French champions feared the Argentina international was not enthusiastic about moving to Paris.
  • Barcelona remain the favourites to land the 26-year-old, who has reportedly asked to leave.
  • Atletico insist the forward is contracted until 2030 and has a €500m buyout clause.
  • Arsenal could still enter the bidding as they look to strengthen their attack.

Paris Saint-Germain have abandoned their pursuit of Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez. The Ligue 1 champions withdrew from negotiations after early talks suggested the player lacked genuine interest in joining the club.

Alvarez has become the centre of intense transfer speculation since the Spanish season ended. The former Manchester City forward has reportedly told Atletico bosses that he wishes to leave the Wanda Metropolitano. Barcelona have emerged as his preferred destination, though the Catalan giants face serious financial obstacles.

Atletico have taken a firm stance against Barcelona’s advances. The Madrid club recently mocked their rivals on social media while dismissing reports of a €100 million bid. They point out that Alvarez remains tied to the club until 2030 and possesses a mammoth €500 million release clause.

PSG’s exit leaves the path clearer for Barcelona, but the Spanish champions must first sell players. Reports suggest they need to generate between €30 million and €50 million before they can register new signings this summer.

Arsenal represent another potential suitor for Alvarez. The North London club secured the Premier League title this season but fell short in the Champions League final. Manager Mikel Arteta may seek attacking reinforcements, particularly after Viktor Gyokeres struggled to adapt during his debut campaign at the Emirates Stadium.

Despite growing interest from abroad, Atletico remain determined to retain their key forward. However, with Alvarez reportedly set on a move, the battle for his signature appears set to dominate the summer transfer window.
