Serie B outfit Avellino have confirmed the appointment of Alessandro Nesta as their new head coach. The Italian club revealed that the former World Cup winner will take charge of the squad with immediate effect.

Nesta, who is fifty years old, steps into the role following the departure of Davide Ballardini. The previous manager guided the team to eighth position in the league table after taking over in February this year.

The new coach arrives with significant experience from the Italian game. His most recent position was with Monza, though he exited the club at the end of a challenging campaign that concluded with demotion from the top flight. Despite this setback, Avellino’s leadership maintain full confidence in his ability to lead the team forward.

Club president Angelo D’Agostino explained the decision-making process. He stated that the board considered multiple candidates before selecting Nesta. D’Agostino expressed strong belief that this season will bring success for both the manager and the club, citing Nesta’s distinguished playing career at AC Milan and for the national team. He described the new appointment as modest and calm, drawing comparisons to his predecessor. The president expects Nesta to build the foundation for future achievements and guide the club toward promotion.

Avellino currently compete in the Italian second tier and possess clear ambitions of reaching Serie A. Nesta brings extensive managerial experience to the task, having previously handled duties at Reggiana, Frosinone, Perugia and Miami FC in the United States. His primary objective will be to transform the side into genuine promotion contenders.
