Canadian football star Alphonso Davies has linked up with his national team as he continues to recover from an injury problem. The Bayern Munich left-back travelled to Alberta to meet his international teammates ahead of their World Cup preparations.
The 23-year-old took part in light training exercises before Canada played Uzbekistan on Monday. He ran laps around the pitch while his teammates secured a 2-0 victory in the friendly match. However, Davies is not yet ready to play in competitive games.
Speaking after the session, Davies expressed his joy at returning to the training ground. “It feels nice to get back on the pitch and do some running. I’m happy to be home, I’m happy to be with the boys and support them, whether it’s just on or off the pitch,” he said.
Canada will begin their World Cup campaign against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12. Despite this deadline, Davies refuses to set a specific date for his comeback. “We just have to see how everything goes over the next couple days. I’ll just continue my rehab, my progression, and see how I’m feeling, day by day, step by step,” he explained.
National team manager Jesse Marsch has backed Davies’ cautious approach. The coach stressed that the medical staff will monitor the player daily to avoid any setbacks. “What we don’t want to do is put him in a situation to suffer again and to be vulnerable again. You can imagine that he wants to build up his body and trust his body in all ways,” Marsch stated. He added that the team will ensure Davies is in the best position to succeed without rushing his recovery.
