Inter Milan have presented Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij with a new short-term contract. The 34-year-old centre-back now faces a big decision about his future at the club.

De Vrij moved to the San Siro in 2018 after leaving Lazio on a free transfer. Injuries have troubled him this season, but he still made 17 appearances across all competitions. The Netherlands international turned 34 in February.

The defender has received proposals from clubs outside Italy. He will study these offers alongside Inter’s new deal before choosing his next step.

Meanwhile, teammate Francesco Acerbi could remain in Italy’s top flight. Reports suggest AC Monza have made contact with the 38-year-old about a move.

Monza secured their place in Serie A through the promotion play-offs. They hope to add Acerbi’s vast experience to their squad for the upcoming campaign.

The veteran had been linked with a transfer to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. This would have reunited him with former manager Simone Inzaghi, who coached him at both Lazio and Inter.

However, sources indicate Acerbi prefers to stay in Italy for personal reasons. The defender has no plans to hang up his boots despite his age.
