Manchester United have completed the signing of Ederson from Atalanta. The Premier League club will pay €40.5 million upfront, with a further €4.5 million available in performance-related bonuses.

The Brazilian midfielder moves to Old Trafford after the Red Devils met the Italian side’s valuation. Atletico Madrid had also wanted the player last month. However, the Spanish club failed to match the financial demands of La Dea.

Ederson has put pen to paper on a contract that runs until the summer of 2030. The agreement includes an option for United to extend his stay for an extra year.

This deal represents shrewd business for Atalanta. The Bergamo club bought the midfielder from Salernitana for just €22.9 million during the summer of 2022. Although they had hoped to receive €60 million for him last year, his contract situation forced the price down. His deal with the Serie A side was due to expire in 2027.

The 25-year-old becomes the latest addition to the United squad as the club prepares for the upcoming campaign. The transfer strengthens their options in the centre of the pitch following the departure of several midfielders.
