- The coach highlighted suspicious goals and off-field problems as major setbacks to their campaign
- Odhiambo returned to the club in August 2024 following his departure from KCB FC
Patrick Odhiambo could leave Kakamega Homeboyz. The head coach has hinted he might walk away from the FKF Premier League side after a disappointing season.
He spoke to reporters following a 1-1 draw with Kenya Police on Sunday. The result concluded the campaign for Abana Beingo, with the team finishing sixth after collecting 49 points from 34 games.
“I need to sit down and think deeply about my future here,” Odhiambo stated. “I feel disappointed because many things went wrong this year. This situation cannot continue.”
The coach, known as Luwowo, praised club chairman Cleophas ‘Toto’ Shimanyula. He said the chairman gave him excellent support. However, he explained that he faced serious difficulties at work.
Odhiambo raised concerns about some goals his team let in during matches. “Some of the goals we conceded look very suspicious,” he said. “I have played football before. These goals make me ask questions. Is it about player quality or something else?”
This season stands in sharp contrast to 2023. Two years ago, Odhiambo led Homeboyz to a domestic cup victory. That win earned the club a historic place in the CAF Confederations Cup.
The former Gor Mahia assistant coach returned to Homeboyz in August last year. He joined the club after losing his position at KCB FC.
Odhiambo has built a strong reputation for achieving results with limited resources. He keeps teams in the top half of the league table despite financial constraints. If he decides to leave, several clubs may seek his services.
