Werder Bremen have turned down a fresh approach from TSG Hoffenheim for midfielder Jens Stage. The Bundesliga club are holding firm on their valuation despite the player’s wish to move.
Reports indicate Hoffenheim tabled an improved offer in the region of €10 million to €12 million. However, Werder Bremen want a minimum of €14 million to sanction the transfer of the Danish international.
The 27-year-old has already reached a verbal agreement on personal terms with Hoffenheim. Stage recently made clear his intention to depart the Weser-Stadion during this summer window.
The defensive midfielder arrived at Werder from FC Copenhagen four years ago for a reported fee of €4 million. He has since become a key figure in the centre of the park for the Green-Whites.
Hoffenheim will likely need to increase their proposal significantly to secure Stage’s signature before the transfer deadline. Werder remain reluctant to lose one of their most consistent performers without receiving what they consider fair compensation.
