Manchester City are thinking about taking legal action. This comes after a man who wants to be Real Madrid president used Erling Haaland’s image on television.
Enrique Riquelme is trying to become the new president. He is running against Florentino Perez. During a TV show on Wednesday, he held up a Real Madrid shirt. The shirt had Haaland’s name on the back.
Riquelme said Haaland has a release clause in his contract. He also said the player wants to join Real Madrid. He promised to sign the Norwegian striker if he wins the election.
But Haaland’s father and agent quickly denied this. They released a statement together. They said there is no release clause. They also said the stories from Spain are not true.
Manchester City also rejected the claims. The club said they may take legal action. They are unhappy that someone used their player’s image without permission.
Riquelme also promised to sign Rodri from City. He said he has spoken to the player’s agent. He wants the Spanish midfielder to join Real Madrid.
This is the first time in 20 years that Perez faces competition in the election. Riquelme started his campaign after Real Madrid won no major trophies for two seasons.
The 37-year-old candidate has made big promises to fans. He said he will cut membership fees by 50% if Real Madrid do not win the Champions League next year. He also wants to build a special city for fans near the training ground.
Riquelme does not want Jose Mourinho as manager. Perez chose Mourinho, but this can only happen if Perez wins. Riquelme wants Jurgen Klopp instead. He said he would love a coach of that quality.
Around 100,000 members can vote in the election. The vote will happen on Sunday, 7 June. Perez called the election himself. He wants to show he still has support from fans. Most people think he will win easily.
