Turkey head coach Vincenzo Montella has spoken warmly about his compatriot Vincenzo Italiano. The national team manager praised the new Besiktas boss for his generosity and character.

Montella revealed a personal story about Italiano during a press conference. He explained that when he organised a fundraising campaign following the earthquake in Adana, Italiano provided the largest contribution. “He is my friend, so I can assure everyone that he is both a very good coach and a good person,” Montella stated.

Italiano has landed in Istanbul to complete his move to Besiktas. The former Fiorentina and Bologna manager has signed a contract that runs for two years. Reports suggest he will receive approximately €5 million each season, with additional bonuses included.

The appointment highlights the growing influence of Italian coaches in Turkish football. Montella currently manages the Turkish national side, while Domenico Tedesco has recently left Fenerbahce to take over at Bologna, replacing Italiano in Italy.

Montella is currently preparing Turkey for the upcoming World Cup in North America. However, he took time to support his friend’s new chapter in Istanbul, emphasising Italiano’s quality as both a tactician and a human being.
